“Adire Funfun: You Don’t Know Your Worth”
Pastor Olusegun Michael Oginni · Sunday, 13th September 2026 · Psalm 149:1-9 · Second Sunday Thanksgiving Service
Key Verse
“For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.” — Psalm 149:4
1. What is “Adire Funfun”?
In Yoruba culture, Adire Funfun is pure white tie-and-dye cloth. It is expensive, royal, and only worn for special occasions. It represents purity, value, and identity.
God is saying: You are my Adire Funfun. You are not ordinary. You are washed, purified, and set apart (1 Peter 2:9).
2. The Problem: “You Don’t Know Your Worth”
Psalm 149:4 says “He will beautify the humble with salvation.” Many believers live in fear, inferiority, and begging because they have forgotten who they are in Christ.
- You are afraid always — Fear comes from ignorance of identity
- You allow people to talk down on you
- You settle for less in career, marriage, ministry
3. 3 Truths From Psalm 149 About Your Worth
- You are God’s Chosen People (v1) — “Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of saints.” You are not ordinary. You are in the assembly of saints. Heaven recognizes you.
- God Takes Pleasure In You (v4) — “For the Lord takes pleasure in His people.” You are not a mistake. God delights in you even when you fail. He will beautify you.
- You Have Authority (v7-9) — “To execute vengeance... to bind their kings with chains.” When you know your worth, you take charge. You don’t beg the devil. You command.
Application for Thanksgiving Sunday
As we thank God today, thank Him not as a beggar but as a son or daughter. A king’s child does not beg for food at the palace. When you know your worth, your thanksgiving will be bold, sacrificial, and joyful.
Prayer Point
“Father, open my eyes to see my worth in Christ. I refuse to live in fear anymore. I take charge of my life in Jesus name. Amen.”
